In one of the worst-ever terror attacks in Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday, India lost 43 soldiers and left many critically injured. Among those who martyred in the Pulwama attack, were two brave souls from Odisha – Prashana Kumar Sahu and Manoj Behera.
The martyred jawans were identified as Ct/GD Prashana Kumar Sahu of 61 Battalions of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Manoj Behera, posted as the constable in the CRPF.
Sahu belonged to Sikhar village in Jagatsinghpur district and Behera hailed from Niali in Cuttack district.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik spoke to the bereaved family members and offered his condolences and terms the Pulwama attack as a ‘cowardly act’.
The Chief Minister later observed a one-minute silence prayer in the State Secretariat paying tribute to the martyred Jawans.
Besides, Patnaik also directed Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera and Health Minister Pratap Jena to visit the two families today.
An explosive laden SUV, a Mahindra Scorpio, rammed into a CRPF convoy going to Kashmir from Jammu around 3.30 PM on Thursday and killed 45 troopers. The incident, in one of the worst indecent times, also left close to 40 soldiers critically injured.
The official said the injured (38) CRPF men are being treated in the Army base hospital in Badamibagh cantonment area of Srinagar.
The CRPF convoy of 78 vehicles was coming from Jammu to Srinagar. The convoy carried 2,547 CRPF personnel.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured the nation that the soldiers’ sacrifice will not go in vain and it will be suitably avenged.
